DKS 5000 Series 16-Gauge Galvanized Steel Drywall Frames

Our 5000 Series drywall frames combine 16-gauge galvanized steel with an unequal-rabbet profile, precise mitered corners, and screw-adjusting compression anchors. Reinforced hinge locations and a universal strike preparation help you coordinate the frame with the door and hardware, while a range of jamb depths supports different finished wall conditions.

Practical Uses

  • Finished drywall partitions: Choose our knockdown drywall frame for compatible finished-wall openings where the frame is fitted after the wallboard is complete.
  • Commercial renovations: Match the frame size, jamb depth, handing, and hardware locations to the planned door and existing wall conditions.
  • Single and paired openings: Our product guide covers single and pair frame configurations. Confirm the exact arrangement and availability before ordering.

Everyday example: For an office renovation, measure the finished wall thickness and opening before ordering. Selecting the correct jamb depth and handing lets the frame fit the partition while keeping hinge and strike preparations aligned with the planned door.

Fit and Preparation

Our 5000 Series uses an unequal-rabbet profile with a standard 2-inch face. Our series information also identifies 4-inch-face heads as an available configuration. Confirm your required opening size, wall thickness, frame throat, jamb depth, head profile, and hardware preparation before ordering. Not every series configuration is included in this listing or available from stock.

  • Jamb depth: The series specification covers 5-5/8 through 9-3/4 inches. Check the product guide and confirm availability for your exact size and depth.
  • Finished-wall fit: Measure the actual wall assembly, including finish layers, and confirm compatibility with the frame throat.
  • Opening dimensions: Measure width at the top, middle, and bottom and height at both jambs. Confirm finished floor elevation before finalizing the frame and door clearances.
  • Handing: Coordinate frame hand with the door swing and hardware schedule.
  • Strike preparation: Standard 4-7/8-inch universal strike preparation. Match the strike and lock template to your opening.
  • Silencer preparation: 9/32-inch preparation.
  • Hardware locations: Verify hinge size, hinge locations, strike location, and selected location pattern. Our product guide includes S-prefix Steelcraft-location options for applicable 8-foot configurations.

Not sure which hand to choose? View our door and frame handing diagram (PDF). Door and frame handing can differ for reverse-swing openings; use the illustrated opening configuration when ordering.

Hinge and Strike Location Coordination

Confirm frame hinge and strike locations against the selected door and approved hardware templates before ordering. Our frame specification sheet illustrates typical hinge and strike preparations. Our door hinge cross reference chart can help identify the matching door location pattern, but door measurements must not be treated as frame cutout dimensions without checking the drawing's reference points.

View our door hinge cross reference chart (PDF) and coordinate it with the frame specification and project drawings.

Installation Guidance

Verify that the finished drywall opening is straight, square, correctly sized, and compatible with the frame throat before fitting the frame. Assemble and secure the head and jamb corners according to our frame installation instructions. Use the specified compression, base, and other required anchors, maintain the correct opening width, and tighten evenly without bowing the jambs. Check that the frame is plumb, level, and square before hanging the door. For labeled openings, verify the supplied label, wall construction, door, hardware, and anchoring requirements before installation or field modification.

Problems It Helps Address

  • Finished-wall frame fit: A range of jamb depths allows the frame to be coordinated with the actual partition thickness.
  • Corner alignment: Exact-fit mitered corners with screw reinforcement connect the head and jamb sides.
  • Hardware mounting needs: 7-gauge hinge reinforcements provide prepared hinge mounting locations with standard/heavy-duty adjustment.
  • Frame positioning: Screw-adjusting compression anchors allow adjustment during installation when used with the required anchoring system.
  • Ordering mismatches: Coordinating hand, opening size, wall thickness, and hardware locations before ordering helps avoid incompatible frame selections.
